Description
Shirasaya refers to a special sword mount, which was formerly used for the gentle keeping of the blade. Especially in times of peace the blades were ideal protected stored in it. The unvarnished Magnolia wood absorbs the moisture inside the sheath, leads it to the outside and thus protects against rust. Many Shirasaya were provided with a “Sayagaki”, an inscription, which gave information on smith, origin and classification. On the streets of Japan, the inconspicuous gear without handle and guard, especially in the late 19th Century was used because at that time the Emperor banned the carrying of Samurai swords. The Shirasaya mount, which was similar to a wooden sword or wooden stick was a clever way to wear the sword unnoticed.
Blade in Shinogi Zukuri style with fuller (Bo-Hi), hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel. The blade is sharp grounded with incorporated Hamon-line for a very authentic look.
With long tang, which is fixed with two bamboo pins (Mekugi) in the handle. The sword is thus fully demountable. Without plastic, only high-quality and authentic materials are used. Blade clamp (Habaki) and washers (Seppa) are made of brass. A protective case made of fabric, a John Lee seal and a certificate are within the scope of supply.
